Christmas is over. Thank you for your purchase of a local Norfolk. Please treecycle.
The Norfolk was once the traditional island Christmas tree and it’s now back in fashion. As seen in Grandma’s old Christmas photos, Norfolk Christmas Trees now grace the cover of this year’s Ala Moana Shopping Center Magazine.
Six reason why you should consider buying a local Norfolk Christmas Tree:
- Buy Hawaii first. Support your local economy.
- You are not cutting down trees. Our farmers cut and prune our Norfolks carefully so that each stump will eventually grow into another whole new Christmas tree.
- We cut them only a few days before you buy it. Once cut down, Norfolk trees will stay green and healthy for at least three months.
- Help reduce the risk of foreign invasive pests entering into our delicate island environment.
- You are buying oxygen for the island. Trees absorb carbon dioxide, removing and storing the carbon while releasing the oxygen back into the air.
- It’s fashionable. It’s our island’s favorite Kamaaina Christmas tree.

Recycle your Christmas trees
Place them at the curb for pickup on your regular twice-per-month yard waste collection day; drop them off at any of the City’s Refuse and Recycling Convenience Centers seven days a week or at the composting facilities.
- For households in the bin pickup system, please note that the tree has to fit inside the bin. Cut the tree into lengths up to three feet and trim branches to ensure that it will fall freely from the cart during collection. If cutting the tree is a bother, you can drop it off whole at the nearest City Convenience Center.
- For households in the bag pickup system, cut the tree into lengths up to three feet and place at curb. If cutting the tree is a bother, you can drop it off whole at the nearest City Convenience Center.
- Click here for Greencycling guidelines/collection schedules.
Please be aware that the State has discontinued the special treecycling sites at parks and other locations around the island. Do not bring your trees to these sites. Use curbside collection or look for the list of City drop-off sites. Condos and commercial buildings can deliver large loads of trees directly to composting facilities – there will be no tip fee charge over the holidays for Christmas trees, courtesy of the City.
